A Day for the Arts
Students at Daniel Wright Junior High School spent the day immersed in exploring a wide variety of art forms on Wednesday, February 24th. Explore the Arts Day provided students with the opportunity to participate in grade level assemblies with performers from Kalapriya Indian Dance Company. “One of the foremost Indian arts organizations in Chicago, Kalapriya perpetuates the rich classical and folk traditions of the subcontinent, along with the current, contemporary, and hybrid innovations of our time.” Additionally, each student participated in four different workshops in the areas of culinary arts, dance/movement, music, performing arts and/or visual arts.
The program is organized and implemented through the District 103 Parent Teacher Organization's Explore the Arts Coordinators: Marina Becker, Lisa Lewis and Cheryl Zerull, along with Daniel Wright teachers Tess Buchberger, Ryan Clarin, and the DW office staff.
This is a unique program that the District 103 PTO makes possible to expose our students to a variety of age-appropriate fine arts experiences. The program extends the fine arts curriculum for District 103 students and rotates annually between Daniel Wright Junior High School, Half Day School and Laura B. Sprague School.
